Agile methodologies, especially eXtreme Programming (XP), incorporate testing techniques during development as ways to cut software development time/cost while also improving quality. Compared to traditional test-last (or never) development and reactive testing approaches, XP practices such as writing executable tests before writing program code can help deliver working code quicker. XP deserves praise for highlighting advantages of using more proactive testing techniques. However, XP (and other development approaches) still miss out on far greater benefits possible from using the full range of additional more powerful approaches and techniques described within the Proactive Testing™ methodology.
